Abstract/Summary
‘A new sea wall to protect a boathouse on Kimmeridge Bay is proposed. This lies within an area of important late 16th and 17th century alum and glass manufacture, with associated hards and piers and 19th century shale exploitation works which are protected as a scheduled monument. The new sea wall lies the area close to the probable location of the earliest alum works and glass works adjacent to a large hard which was destroyed by storms in the mid 18th century. The small scale of the works and its position on the edge of the beach means that it is likely to have only a moderately adverse effect on the archaeological resource.’
