Abstract/Summary

In advance of determination of the planning application for the extension of the vestry at St Mary's Church, Lytchett Matravers, an archaeological investigation was specified and was commissioned from AC archaeology. The first stage involved a study of readily available documentary sources and was intended to determine, without the necessity for archaeological fieldwork, the broad archaeological implications of the proposed vestry extension. This study (Richards and Chandler; AC archaeology report no. 4492.1) did not reveal any information relating to pre-19th century structures and a subsequent stage of investigation was commissioned. This was to involve the field evaluation of the area of the proposed vestry extension (located on figure 1 and defined on the ground by Architect, Mr Ken Morgan).
