Abstract/Summary

A surface drain trench dug in 1965 on the NW side of the road junction revealed Roman building debris at 3ft to 4ft below the pavement. The trench cut the edge of a vertical sided trench or pit at least 1ft 4ins wide by 1 ft deep, containing flint, limestone and mortar rubble, which looked like a robbed wall trench running approximately NE.
