Abstract/Summary

During construction work for a new supermarket and office block on the site of Bugler's former restaurant on the west side of South Street between the Post office and Tilley's motor salerooms, it was possible to recover some scraps of information suggesting that the Roman building represented by the mosaic found in 1905 at Tilley's extended southwards. Several Roman and medieval pits were found, and indications of mortar or rammed chalk floors.
