Abstract/Summary

As work on the building of the new County Library had not yet started, it was possible to excavate again this year on the former stable site at Colliton Park. One weeks digging was done at Easter and another one in August; work was continued also, on fine Saturdays during the summer. Once again work was concentrated on the western side of the site. Two pits were excavated and, on the extreme west of the site a 40ft length of a 10ft wide road was uncovered, aligned N-S. The surface comprised small flints and gravel embedded in slaked lime to produced a cement like material. A late 2nd century coin was found in the repair to a wheel rut. The inner edge of the western town rampart was found 10 feet west of the road.
