Abstract/Summary
Whenever one scratches the soil of Dorchester one seems to come upon relics of the Roman occupation. When Cedar Park was demolished for the erection of Mr. Sargeant’s houses, the workmen unearthed a piece of Roman pavement, composed of red and white tesserae arranged on a simple pattern. In the adjoining garden at the back of Dr. Emson’s old house, which is now being pulled down and to be replaced by modern offices, a similar specimen of
tesselation has been discovered.
