Abstract/Summary
A deep excavation for the basement of the extension, opening into Trinity Street, of Messrs. Woolworth's stores, in 1961, was watched by permission of the management as far as was practicable. Some Romano-British pottery was collected from the site, but apparently no structural remains were found, the same negative results were recorded when the store was built in 1930, but part of a tesselated pavement was found there in 1898, probably connected with or part of that found in 1895, immediately to the north in Cedar Park (now occupied by Marks and Spencer's) which is relaid by the staircase in the museum.
