Title 'A Tesselated Pavement' Dorset County Chronicle
Author/Originator
Date/Year 1863

Abstract/Summary

"A TESSELATED PAVEMENT, possessing great beauty of design, was the other day discovered in the old nursery ground, adjoining the County Hospital, while excavating for a drain to the villa residence there building for E. Pearce Esq. It was scarcely two feet below the surface, and the debris on the top included several roofing slabs, similar to those found under like circumstances in the inclosure of Dorchester Castle. It is at present covered up, we believe with the view of adopting some means of preserving this other memento of the residence of the Romans in this place."
