Title | Archaeological Monitoring of a Housing Development Site between 84-90 East Street, Corfe Castle, Dorset (NGR SY 96218177) |
Author/Originator | Hambleton, D |

Abstract/Summary
Following an evaluation of the site in March 1995 a second phase of archaeological monitoring and recording was conducted during demolition and groundworks for a new housing development during August and September 1995. The earlier evaluation has produced a moderate amount of medieval pottery from close to the existing East Street frontage, a part of the site regarded as having some potential for the survival of further in situ deposits of medieval date. The second phase of monitoring however was not able to produce any substantial additional information of Medieval activity along the frontage of East Street due to the unstable and unsafe condition of the foundation trenches, some of which had to be infilled rapidly. Only two sherds of medieval pottery were found but these were unstratified surface finds. The position of a well, of unknown date, was also recorded.
