SWX8492 - The Archaeological Evaluation of Land at Orchard Cottages, Steeple, Dorset. Centred on SY89408285

A field evaluation by means of machine excavated trenches supported by a desk-based study was carried out on the site of a proposed development at Orchard Cottages, Steeple, Dorset. Wall structures and buried features were identified in the vicinity of the cottages, with the pottery evidence suggesting a date range between the late-eighteenth to mid-nineteenth centuries. This is around the documented date for the construction of the cottages, which is between 1765 and 1805. No significant deposits were found elsewhere in the evaluation trenches.
