Abstract/Summary
An archaeological evaluation was carried out on land for the proposed extension to the Swanage Brickworks, Swanage, Dorset (SZ01818040). The work was commissioned by Ibstock Brick Limited, operators of the existing works, as part of an environmental assessment of a proposed extension to the existing clay quarry. A total of seven machine-dug trenches, six 20m in length and one 15m long, was excavated in the area of the proposed extension. These excavations uncovered a number of post holes and a linear feature that were identified as the remains of structures from an army camp that occupied the site during the First World War. No pre-modern features or deposits were identified. One sherd of post-medieval pottery was recovered from the topsoil during trenching.
