Abstract/Summary

Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Bournemouth Borough Council to evaluate three small areas on Hengistbury Head, Christchurch, Dorset (centred on National Grid Reference (NGR) SZ 41600 09100). This work represented the third stage of evaluation undertaken as part of an Environmental Impact Assessment in advance of the submission of planning proposals for the sitting of a new Outdoor Education Centre. Three trenches were excavated; two on the north side of the Broadway where it was proposed to site a bus turning circle and one just to the east of the entrance to the existing car park to investigate the possibility of archaeological remains surviving along the roadside and beneath a bund. No archaeological features, finds or deposits were recorded.
