CHETNOLE ST 6008 MILL LANE 6/16 Chetnole Mill, and attached cottages (Nos. 1 and 2 Grove Cottages)

Former watermill, with attached cottage. Mid-late C18. Mill has rubble stone walls, tiled roof with coped gables, stone stack at west gable. On north side, roof carried down as a catslide. 3 storeys on south, single-storey on north. In north wall, arched opening for former watercourse. Above this a stone mullioned window, part glazed, part boarded. Double doors right of this, under stone arch with projecting keystone. 2 stone mullioned windows right of the doors. In east gable wall, remains of sack hoist. Left door below this in altered window opening. Blocked mullioned window above door. Internally, most machinery survives. Attached cottages at-west end, appear contemporary with mill, but extended in Cl9. These have coursed rubble stone walls, slate roof with part coped gables. One rendered and one brick stack at junction with mill. 2 storeys. Section adjoining mill has, in north wall, a C20 casement on ground floor, and a C18 sash on first floor in moulded stone surround with keystone. Return wall - west - has, on first floor, a C18 round-headed window with bordered glazing; - projecting keystone and imposts C19 extension on west has rubble stone walls and slate roof.
