Description
An archaeological evaluation of the site of a proposed vehicle hire depot adjacent to Dorchester South Station, was carried out by AC Archaeology in April 1996. The investigation consisted of the excavation of three small trenches in the immediate vicinity of the proposed new buildings and parking areas. All the trenches displayed a high degree of truncation and comparatively recent made ground was shown to exist directly over natural subsoil. No archaeological deposits were present, and the limited number of artefacts recovered were either residual or of recent date. It is likely that the whole of the area of this site was severely disturbed by the construction of the railway.
