EDO3919 - Poundbury Phase II Evaluation Trench 6

Wessex Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of land designated as Poundbury Phase II, in advance of a proposed light industrial development. Initially geophysical and fieldwalking surveys were carried out to identify areas of archaeological potential. These areas were evaluated with seven trenches excavated in December 1996. No evidence of archaeological features were recorded during the trenching phase of the evaluation. Trench 6 measured 30m by 1.8m, aligned approximately NW-SE. It was located in the central part of the evaluation area, in order to sample a concentration of flint identified during field walking. The trench was excavated to a depth of c. 0.7m onto natural clay-with-flints subsoil. No archaeological features were observed.
