Description
Following on from the evaluation at Alington Avenue in 1984 (EDO4113), a geophysical survey was carried out by the staff of English Heritage's Ancient Monuments Laboratory. The survey was conducted in advance of a housing development in March 1985, using a fluxgate gradiometer.
The survey suggested a palimpsest of major features, initially interpreted as enclosures and field boundaries, was present, predominately in the northern part of the site. Large scale open area excavation of the site followed on from the survey.
