SDO9566 - Alington Avenue, Dorchester, Dorset, Report on Geophysical Survey.

Geophysical survey conducted using a fluxgate gradiometer in March 1985 on the site south of Alington Avenue and east of Fordington Farm. The survey followed on from an Evaluation conducted in 1984 in advance of a housing development. Results were consistent with those obtained by a previous survey to the north of Alington Avenue (AML Report No. G 2/82). Topsoil MS was high, however anomalies were weak and collective detail poor. Possible causes could be reduction of features by plough damage, or chalky fills (From Report). Identified: SETTLEMENT - Roman CIRCULAR ENCLOSURE - Later Prehistoric LONG BARROW ? - Late Neolithic ENCLOSURE - Iron Age ?
