Description

AC archaeology undertook an archaeological evaluation of a plot of land adjacent to South Mill Lane, New Zealand, Bridport in advance of a proposed car park extension during September 2003. Four machine-dug trenches totalling 22.5 m in length were excavated. (1) (2) Trench 2 was positioned in the southern portion of the site. It was 10m by 1.5m across, aligned NE-SW. The trench revealed a 0.4m thick layer of topsoil above a silty clay natural subsoil. The edge of a large feature over one metre deep was found at the NE end of the trench. Its size, shape and character were not determined, but it contained fragments of modern concrete and brick. (2)
