Description
AC Archaeology was commissioned to undertake an archaeological evaluation on behalf of Haywood & Co. This was in support of a development application for the redevelopment of 4ha of land in Bridport. The evaluation comprised of six test pits across the site, each measuring 1m x 2m. Initial excavation took place using a mini-digger under direction of the on-site archaeologists. This stopped upon reaching any archaeological deposits, or when natural soil was exposed.
A small selection of finds was recovered during the investigation, dating from the late 18th to 19th century. These included 12 sherds of pottery and three animal bones. The excavation of pits also showed the presence of buried building remains on the site, including a brick floor and possible wall foundation. No finds or features of later date were identified.
