Abstract/Summary

‘This report sets out the results of an archaeological evaluation undertaken at the St Michael’s Trading Estate, Bridport, in November 2008, in support of a planning application for redevelopment. Six trial pits were excavated in locations chosen to target specific aspects of the early industrial or pre-industrial phases of the proposed development area. Evidence for pre-1900 industrial and associated residential buildings was recovered. No evidence for pre-industrial phases of activity was located. The information provides confirmation of the depths at which significant archaeological deposits survive and can be used to identify features at risk from disturbance once detailed design and foundation information is available.’
