Description

Observations and recording during digging of a trench to locate a blocked drain. The trench was dug along the edge of the agger of the road. Most of the area exposed was revealed to be disturbed by drain and gas main trenches. The agger had been disturbed in the later 20th century, but a small part of the agger base and a buried soil layer beneath it survived. No trace of a roadside ditch was seen.
