Description

Archaeological evaluation of a plot of land to the rear of 1-3 Weymouth Avenue and situated just outside the Roman defences of Dorchester, in an area where Roman burials had been found previously. The evaluation comprised the excavation of a trench 7.5m long and 1m to 1.5m wide, equivalent to a 2.6% sample of the site. This revealed a thick layer of medieval and later agricultural soil beneath late 19th and 20th-century deposits. No archaeological features were exposed.
