An evaluation was carried out for Wessex Strategic Ltd in relation to a planning application for the construction of 85 dwellings, community facilities and associated infrastructure, on 8ha of pasture. 46 trenches measuring 30m by 1.8m were excavated and 6 geotechnical pits of varying sizes. All trenches were excavated by mechanical excavator equipped with toothless grading bucket to the level of the first significant archaeological horizon or the natural substrate. Archaeological remains were found in 37 trenches. These included ring ditches, ditches and pits, though not all were excavated further.
