Description

Geophysical survey using fluxgate gradiometer as part of a staged archaeological evaluation of land proposed for development. The survey covered 27ha targeting two fields to the west of Wimborne Road (9.8ha) and seven fields to the east of it (17.2ha). Only limited evidence of potential archaeological remains were detected including a possible sinuous ditch at the eastern edge of the survey area in Field 7 and a curvilinear feature in the south-west corner of Field 6, also at the eastern edge of the area. Signs of cultivation, including possible ridge and furrow, were recorded in most areas. Two linear zones of strong variation corresponded to recent tracks and a field boundary shown on historic maps. Other anomalies revealed features of probable natural origin such as tree throws and palaeochannels
