Summary
A chapel built inn 1746 when the Indepandants split from the Unitarians. The chapel was rebuilt in 1777 and enlarged in 1798 and 1815, with further alterations being made in 1836. Following the builing of the Independent (new United Reformed) church in East Street, this building was a Temperance Hall, the Liberal Hall and a theatre.

Full Description
Rebuilt 1777. Built as an Independant Chapel, when the Independants split from the Unitarians in 1746. This was twice enlarged, in 1798 and 1815, altered in 1836 and superseded in 1860 by the Independant (new United Reformed) Church in East Street. Since then, it has been a Temperance Hall, the Liberal Hall, and the Electric Palace Cinema. Hammer dressed stone. Slate roof with a hipped gable. Modillion eaves cornice. Round-headed doorway with round-headed window over it. Over lower part of window is a tablet with "Liberal Club 1886" engraved. Round-headed windows at each side. <1>
