Monument record MDO1461 - Medieval strip lynchets, Knowl Hill, Loders

A series of medieval strip lynchets are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs.

Lynchets form five groups of terraces about KNOWLE HILL a) Following the contours of a spur on the E. slope are three terraces about 340 yds long, and from 18 to 36 ft wide in each terrace.<1> Centred at [SY50259345] TI correct [Field report partially contained on Dorset 38NE15] these lynchets are largely portrayed on OS 6" of 1931. They average 3.5m in an almost vertical drop. They are approx parallel and are partly grass and partly scrub and tree covered.
