Full Description

Lynchets form five groups of terraces about KNOWLE HILL … b) c) and d) to the N. of the hill consist of four two and five terraces respectively following the slope of the hill and turning W at the N end. The terraces are from 13 to 44 ft wide. e) To the extreme W, consists two terraces on a N slope extending for about 120 yds, each about 48 ft wide. <1> Centred at [SY50259345] TI correct [Field report partially contained on Dorset 38NE15] these lynchets are largely portrayed on OS 6" of 1931. They average 3.5m in an almost vertical drop. They are approx parallel and are partly grass and partly scrub and tree covered. See APs CPE/UK/2431/3159-3160. <2> [C: Centred at SY 50459315] Three areas of grass covered Md. strip lynchets visible on AP CPE/UK/2431/3159-3160. … C: Several terraces 5.0m - 10.0m wide, the drop between each averaging 1.7m. <3> A series of medieval strip lynchets are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs on the east facing slopes of Knowl Hill, Loders. <4-5>
