Summary

Two storey countryhouse with attics, built 1608 (former date stone in porch). Altered in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and considerably restored circa 1970. Brick walls on stone plinth, with some burnt header decoration. Tiled roofs with stone eaves courses and coped gables. Brick stacks on ridge and gables, with oversailing caps - some with diagonal shafts. Originally of E-plan form.

Full Description

A large house in brick with stone mullioned windows as well as later sashes. Erected early in C17, but much altered later. <1> Bloxworth House, a brick-built house of two storeys with basement and attics was constructed early in the 17th century, probably in 1608, on an E-shaped plan. A single-storeyed north east wing was added in the mid 18th century with remodelling of the west wing in the early 19th century. Later additions included a small outer porch, a western extension of the house and a kitchen wing to the south east. A brick-built stable block to the east of the house was probably built in the mid 17th century, over the doorways are two reset stone panels inscribed with the dates 1649 and 1669 respectively. <2> A country house built in 1608, altered in the 18th and 19th centuries and restored in c1970. Associated with the house are a number of ancillary buildings, including the stables, a pump house, a brewhouse and an icehouse. <4>
