Full Description

Strip Lynchets. <1> Parallel and regularly spaced terraces, the vertical drop between each averaging 2.5 metres. These terraces face the west and south west, following the contours. They are of Medieval type. To the East of Goggins Barrow in the south of the area, are several east to west lynchets less well defined and more widely spaced. The whole area is under grass. <2> Medieval strip lynchets around SY 731822 and SY 733820 are briefly mentioned. <3> The strip lynchets centred at SY 73208205, covering an area of 0.5 ha., are as described by Authority 2. Area outlined on 1:10 560 Record Sheet. <4> System of medieval strip lynchets to the west of Osmington Mills, visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project<5-6>.
