Full Description

SY 712830. A series of medieval type strip lynchets, up to 3.0m high, are situated on the slope of the western end of a ridge. <1> A series of contour-type strip lynchets are well defined to the north of the field at SY 713830 but gradually become indistinct to the south of the field. A probable continuation of these lynchets appears on the south slope of Osmington Hill from SY 713826 to SY 723823 where clearly defined contour-types are visible, becoming indistinct towards the east. (Not mentioned by RCHM). <2> Medieval strip lynchets associated with Osmington Village. The lynchets follow the contours of the land and most end in ramps or by running out on to an unploughed area. <1-4> The medieval strip lynchets were digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project <4>.
