Summary
A small late Roman ditch was discovered in Trench 1 during the evaluation excavation undertaken by Wessex Archaeology in 1989 at 58/60 High West Street, Dorchester. This ditch was aligned roughly ENE-WSW and it cut through the upper fill of the south side of a large late Roman pit, which indicates that the ditch was at least late 3rd century or later in date. Its purpose is uncertain, but it may have been a boundary ditch.

Full Description
A small late Roman ditch was discovered in Trench 1 during the evaluation excavation undertaken by Wessex Archaeology in 1989 at 58/60 High West Street, Dorchester. This ditch was aligned roughly ENE-WSW and it cut through the upper fill of the south side of a large late Roman pit, which gives the ditch a terminus post quem of AD270 or later. This ditch was 0.5m wide and 0.2m deep. Its purpose is uncertain, but may have been a boundary ditch.
