Please read our .

Summary

The remains of a well were found within the area of a Roman building partially exposed in 1957. It had a circular shaft and only the southern half was exposed. The well was lined with unmortared flint and limestone rubble. It lay immediately west of a wall of the Roman building, within the room containing a mosaic floor. The well presumably post-dates the building and is probably post-medieval in date. Some 'recent' pottery sherds were recovered from the top of the well.
