Summary

The remains of an earlier stable were exposed below the floor of the former police station stable (built 1860) during a watching brief to the rear of 6 Prout Hill, Beaminster. Part of the sandstone north wall and cobbled floor and drains were exposed. This building is shown on the 1843 Beaminster Tithe Map.

Full Description

The remains of an earlier stable were exposed below the floor of the former police station stable (built 1860) during a watching brief to the rear of 6 Prout Hill, Beaminster. This building is shown on the 1843 Beaminster Tithe Map. The north wall of local sandstone, of the earlier stable was exposed within the existing 1860 building. To the south was the remains of a cobbled floor and a stone lined drain was found inside the building and one running along the outside of the north wall.
