Full Description
The remains of Second World War beach scaffolding are visible on aerial photographs of 1945 on the beach at Boscombe. The scaffolding is visible in six sections, measuring approximately 205 m and lying to the south of Boscombe Overcliff Drive. (1) Beach scaffolding was constructed of wire held by two lines of tubular steel scaffolding braced from behind by steel struts. The scaffolding was arranged in lines along the front of the beach to impede landing craft and was removed immediately after the war. (2) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
