Full Description

A large area of Second World war bomb craters are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1946 to the west of Little Sea. The craters are visible as sub-circular depressions over an area measuring approximately 610 m by 400 m. The bomb craters measure between 2 m and 7 m in diameter. (1) This site is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (2) Extensive, dense, areas of bomb craters are located to the east and west (see MDO28676-7, MDO28679-81 and MWX827). This area was used for military training exercises and bomb disposal during the Second World War. (3) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
