Full Description

A large area of Second World war bomb craters are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1946 on and around Jerry's Point, adjacent to Studland Heath. The craters are visible as sub-circular depressions over an area measuring approximately 425 m by 310 m. The bomb craters measure between 2 m and 8 m in diameter. (1) This site is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (2) Extensive, dense, areas of bomb craters are located to the south west and east(see MDO28676-9, MDO28681 and MWX827). This area was used for military training exercises and bomb disposal during the Second World War. (3) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
