Full Description
A 19th century to early modern ball clay works, the Newton Clay Works, is visible as earthworks and structures on aerial photographs of the 1950s on Newton Heath. The site consists of three pits, five areas of finger dumps and a group of associated buildings. The site is visible over an area measuring 1140 m by 700 m. (1) A section of a tramway, which carried clay from the works to Goathorn pier is visible as a structure at the eastern end of the site (see MDO29052). This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
