Second World War beach defences are visible on aerial photographs of 1941 along the beach front to the south of Southbourne Overcliff Drive. The beach defences appear to have been removed later during the Second World War. They consist of a line of defences extending along the beach for a distance of 63 m, then turning inland at its eastern end. (1) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
