Full Description
An area of post medieval chalk extraction is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs to the east of Chaldon Herring. The features consist of an area of extractive pits and scarps visible over an area measuring 400 m by 100 m. (1-3) The quarries are partially visible as earthworks on the most recent comprehensive aerial photographic cover available to the project of 2009. (4) A limekiln which is probably associated with the quarrying is recorded separately (see MDO7288). This feature was digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
