Monument record MDO41944 - Ditches, possible medieval field system, Upton Park Farm, Poole
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Observations and recording during building of a new road in 2016 revealed a number of ditches, some of which appeared to have been redefined two or three times. The layout and relationship between the ditches was not clear, but they were thought most likely to be a field system. Pottery recovered from the filling of the ditches suggested a probable 13-14th century date, though a small quantity of 10th-12th-century pottery was also recovered, hinting at earlier activity. These ditches may be associated with walls and a possible hearth recorded to the north.
