The Pilbox Study Group note the site of a probable Second World War roadblock on Longfleet Road just west of its junction with Bird's Hill Road/Garland Road, inferred from RAF aerial photographs dated January 1947. The roadblock is associated with a stop-line of concrete anti-tank blocks running from Poole Park in the south, northwest towards Longfleet, following the western side of Bird's Hill Road.
