Summary

Pottery of thirteenth to fourteenth-century date was recovered from a building site in 1949 on the south side of Hawkesdene Lane. This material was interpreted as representing medieval occupation.

Full Description

Some 13th-14th century medieval pottery was found by Mr. N. Teulon Porter during building operations in 1949 on the south side of Hawkesdene Lane about 200 yds. E.S.E. of Hawkesdene Farm (ST 869224). <1> Mr. Teulon Porter pointed out the site on the plan but had no additional information. The site is now built over - ST 86892243. The pottery was seen in Shaftesbury Museum. <2> ST 869225. Occupation site with 13th and 14th century. pottery was discovered in 1949 on the south side of Hawkesdene Lane. <3> 'Cann, Hawkesdene Lane: O.S. 1-in. 869225. Some 13th-14th century medieval pottery was found by Mr. N. Teulon Porter during building operations in 1949 on the south side of Hawkesdene Lane about 200 yards E.S.E. of Hawkesdene Farm.
