Full Description
Part of the Roman road from Badbury Rings to Kingston Deverill (Linear 511) is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. The site is centred at ST 9471 0943 and comprises two parallel linear drainage ditches 21m apart which probably flanked the road. The ditches extend roughly NNW / SSE and are aligned on part of the road visible to the south (see ST 90 NW 146 / UID: 1478996). The easternmost ditch measures 48m long and the westernmost extends in several fragments over a combined length of 108m, between ST 9469 0948 and ST 9473 0938. The course of the road immediately to the north is represented in the pattern of extant field boundaries beyond which another section is visible on aerial photographs (ST 91 SW 132 / UID: 1481291).
