Full Description
A trench (Trench A1) excavated to investigate a linear anomaly located from geophysical survey revealed no discernible linear feature. One of several trial pits dug in the bottom of the trench to investigate the transition to natural geology revealed a fragment of pottery and five worked flints, and six fragments of pottery and four worked flints were found during cleaning of the higher eastern part of the trench. One glazed sherd was thought to be of probable medieval date. The excavators describe the other pottery sherds as small, abraded and formless, but with a fabric which suggested a prehistoric, probably Bronze Age date. Similarly, although the flints did not include any recognisable tool types, they were felt to be compatible with a Bronze Age date.
