Title Preliminary Archaeological Investigation of Proposed Reservoir Site at Longham, Dorset
Author/Originator
Date/Year 1992
Poole Museum Service

Abstract/Summary

Results of trial trenches excavated in advance of proposed reservoir construction preceded by gravel extraction. The site consists of an irregular, low-lying area, of approximately sixty hectares, within the Stour Valley. The geological composition is of soils resting on valley gravel. Archaeological material appeared to be limited to one possible, undated feature (Context 12) and sporadic finds within the topsoil. This report does not purport to represent a full field assessment of the area of the proposed development. It is a component of a preliminary investigation directed by Oxford Archaeological Associates.
