Full Description

A stone wall, possibly part of a dock, consisting of large stone ashlars surmounted by reinforced concrete. The stone appeared to be Purbeck limestone, patterned probably by mechanised cutting methods. The wall extended from the present ground level to at least 3m below ground. It is suggested this wall may be part of a dock that was backfilled prior to development, and it is of 18th or 19th century in date. (1) (2) The line of this wall forms the western side of the inlet to a pond or pool chamber shown on 18th and 19th century maps. (3)(4) (5) It is not shown on Sir Peter Thompson's 1751 map, so may be later than 1751. (6)
