Monument record MWX2925 - Manor Farm (Bronze Age phase)

Bronze Age activity concentrated on two areas of site, plots 6 and 9. Characterised by storage pits and post pits & holes.

The Bronze Age phase is one of the main phases of archaeological activity, notably on plots 6 and 9. Each of these plots contained distinctive archaeological features of Bronze Age date. Plot 6 was characterised by a series of storage circular pits cut into the ground. The best examples of these features yielded rubble and ash deposits, pottery, fired clay fragments (thought to derive from an oven plate). At least one pit was lined at its base with limestone. Plot 9 was characterised by a number of large post pits indicative of a former structure. The plan of this (presumed) structure could not be identified, though the post pits almost certainly continue beyond the area of excavation. Some of these were intercutting. A number of smaller post-holes were also identified. A single pit excavated in plot 9 was interpreted as having a storage function.(1,2,3)
