Full Description

Layer of chert cobbles in bottom of test pit, proved to be within a probable house structure. Curved linear spread of limestone identified believed to represent the remains of a wall. Internal packed floor surface identified with possible hearth area. Interpreted as a late Bronze Age or Iron Age structure (1) Chert cobbles, many burnt or broken, with limestone slat rubble. Presumed to form a floor surface. Western edge defined by curving band of limestone slat rubble interpreted as the destroyed remains of the wall of a roundhouse (2) A burnt mound with an enclosing wall overlying linear feature cut into natural. The burnt stone was cut by a later pit filled with clay and large stones. The burnt stone was also overlain by one or possibly two field walls of post-medieval date represented by linear spreads of limestone rubble (Monument record WX3395) (3).
