Full Description

A brick yard at the north end of Middle Chine marked on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch map Epoch 1 (1870). The map shows a roughly rectangular area with two rectangular kilns in the northeast part and a gravel pit in the southeast part, with a shed adjacent. There appears to have been a clay pit immediately to the west, but this is not marked on the map. (1) The brick yard had gone out of use by 1890 as it is not shown on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch Epoch 2 map. This shows the gravel pit marked as 'Old Gravel Pit' and a clay pit marked 'Old Clay Pit' to the west. (2)
