Abstract/Summary

A short interim report on the first season of excavations conducted against the north face of the south curtain wall of the middle ward at Corfe Castle during 1949. The excavation was targeted next to a section of herringbone masonry within the curtain wall. The site had been explored in 1883 when traces of a former building were found but not fully recorded. The 1949 excavation revealed the outline of a building against the southern wall of which the curtain wall had been constructed.
